what a bear of a job. Not difficult as in problem solving difficult, but I had to be careful not to lose track of what I removed. On my 88 I had t remove many bits including hte wiper motor.
the blower motor housing was HELL to get out, until I realized htat taking hte throttle body and dashpot of helped, as well as visualising in advance how it will move when I give it a good tug. I realised that you need to twist the housing clockwise to separte it from the housing on the firewall, while similtaneously pulling up real hard. THis didn't get it completely up, but it just took a good tug towards me, and she popped right out. Now getting it back it was EASY. I lined it up and shoved it down avec force, then I rotated it counter clockwise to mate up to hte housing on the firewall.
The AC housing needs to be slighly mobile as the mouth needs to be elevated quite a bit to have free access to the blower motor.
About 4 hours with brakes in between, but I have to still install the wiper motor, bulk head, etc etc,,,,most of this time was cursing mean streaks wondering why the hell the blower motor housing wouldn't move (before I started removing everything in sight.
I guess the only advise I have is clear as much room as you can in advance, as pulling on the blower motor housing avec force, may damage things. Make good mental notes of what you have disconnected. My job is made a bit more difficult as I have an NSD system rigged up to that area.
no, it did not go without a hitch, but what does on a 15 year old car with brittle plastic...(cracked the housing on the firewall....fixed with automotive goop,,,good to go.
tiring I must say, this has to one of the crappiest jobs to do on this car. I can see why this costs a fortune at a dealer. I would call in sick if I had to do this daily.
