The car has a cold start program that will switch off after a couple of mintes. Idle will go down from 850-900 rpm to the standard 650.
When cold this engine has a tendency to sound ' like a diesel' . I remember using the same phrase on this board when I started to drive the v6. It's just how the engine is, partially, because I have noticed some Opel v6 cars around here having that same characteristic sound.
That being said, I found I could greatly reduce it by using the appropriate type of oil (which is in my case Castrol 10w-30 full-synth), and filling it close to max., something this engine seems to like.
The sould should go away once sufficient oil gets into the head and cams.
the 4-cyls have this valve-ticking when cold, which is comparable.
Good luck,
JAn Geert
