And I'm NOT cringing!!!!!
My '98 9000CSE (last of the breed) has a re-mapped ECU ("chipped"), larger exhaust (3"), better air delivery (K&N), stronger BPV (Hyperboost), ugraded suspension parts, and I definitely can swat stock AERO's out of my way. And this is with an auto.
It was mentioned once on this board that there is nothing sweeter than a turbo engine mated to an auto, and I can vouch for that statement. Just point and shoot is basically the feeling you get. There is zero turbo lag, and can be shifted like a stick once moving.
Yes, upgrades (actually, even if left stock) to a 9000 equipped with a Garrett T-25 turbo (CSE's, auto AERO's) will give quicker spool-up times and lower/zero lag, but if equipped with the Mitsubishi TD-04 (stick AERO's, '98 CSE's w/stick) will give much higher top-end performance. The Mitsu is a larger turbo, thus allowing more breathing capability.
The only differences between a stick AERO and a CSE/auto-AERO is the turbo and the software in the ECU (in terms of the engine, not of the trim level).
