It's a 12 volt battery. Battery doesn't "draw" voltage - it supplies voltage.
Not quite sure what your mechanic was trying to tell you, but glad your problem is resolved.
I paid for 13 hours labour in the spring to get an electrical problem resolved in my 1987 Nissan pickup - FACTORY DEFECT in assembly (pinched wire) wore through after 260,000km. Complete dash removal required to get to it. I feel your pain.
In the photo, the pink wire right at the middle of the photo was pinched between the plastic bracket and the steel mount on the body.
