Symptoms are most likely related to a weak grounding or positive supply as battery should compensate and supply current / voltage not the alternator.
For the start do:
Clean the negative cable shoe with sanding paper (rub it inside). Check that it's not loose.
Did you clean the positive supply cable shoe with a sanding paper when you replaced the battery - if not do it - check it's not loose.
Clean the contacts where grounding cables from battery end on the chassis and motor.
Also you should use dielectric grease in the contacts ("Battery grease" i.e. vaseline that doesn't contain water). If you cover the cable shoes and terminals with grease then they won't corrode as quickly as they do without the grease - just a thin layer is enough.
Hint: When you connect the cable shoe always don't just insert it, but also swivel it a bit back and forth...
