Agree that it's a good time just to change the sway-bar endlinks and be done with it, rather than fiddling around with the worn ones.
Spreading the hub carrier to remove the balljoint can easily be done with a big screwdriver, you shouldn't need much if any (just did our '92 and it came right apart.)
You may need a punch or a sacrificial screwdriver with which to tap the pinch-bolt out of the hub carrier.
OEM balljoints have a C-clip on their stud, either to keep the balljoint in the hub carrier during manufacture or as a safety device to keep the balljoint in if the bolt falls out, don't know which. Aftermarket replacement balljoints I've used do not have this clip, so don't bother looking for it. IMO not a big deal.
Use new bolts to hold the balljoint to the control arm (really, what we mean is use new LOCKNUTS...) and if you're not using a new pinch-bolt in the hub carrier, use a dab of blue (242) Loctite on it.
Make sure to torque to specs (do you have a small enough torque wrench to deal with the three ball-joint-to-control-arm bolts? Be careful not to OVER-tighten these.)
