I wouldn't buy one unless you feel you are a competent DIY. Now the car is 15 years old and you should expect to have some problems associated with a 15 year old car. Structurally they hold up, cosmetically some will still look new, but if maintenance hasn't been kept up you will be in a fix or repair mode a lot.
I don't have a lot of sympathy for some on the board that buy a 15 year old car and complain that there were expensive repairs to be made. Unless the cars are younger than 4-5years, I don't care if it is a chevy, honda, chrysler, you should anticipate repairs. That is why you can pick up a good looking, structurally sound car for less than $2500. If it hasn't been kept up/done, it will need work on brakes, suspension, exhaust, engine accessories, potentially head gasket, transmission.
