What caused the cylinder #1 low compression (valve?) Aparently you fixed it?
If the valve was leaking long(ish) time there is a chance that unburned fuel got into the catalysator and eventually fried it.
High HC with "normal" CO could be caused by atleast:
bad combustion (check spark etc)
lean mixture
still low compression in some cylinder(s)
too early spark (yours have the distributor that adjusts the timing?)
