You DO need the ECU for a proper conversion... Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Mon, 1 Dec 2003 13:16:47 In Reply to: Just a Boost control Valve on LPT??? Without the correct ECU, you will not have a true FPT, as I mentioned in a previous post. The CS ECU does not interact with the APC system, and therefore is not a FPT. A true FPT uses the Trionic system (tri=3=spark, fuel and boost) to control the turbo pressure. Unless a manual boost controller (MBC-I think this is what you're looking at on boostvalve.com) is calibrated correctly, pre-ignition (aka "knock") could ruin your engine permanently. You would also need premium high octane fuel. Installing just a BPV (aka BPC, aka APC solenoid), which is the valve with three hoses, will not have any effect on your boost, because your ECU cannot control it. Therefore, I recommend just getting a new ECU. They are cheap, and easy to find and will maintain the safety of your Trionic system.
