Thanks for the help. My understanding is that after you incorrectly input the code three times (which I certainly did, after the correct code wouldn't "take") you have to sit with the ignition on for one hour to let the radio reset itself. In any case, I did try holding band to no avail.
The radio operates normally when the car is off or the radio is off, ie it doesn't do anything. It is just when you turn it on, you get a constant beeping noise.
