Just like engine Bearings are not correctly refered to as 'bushings'.. which they also are...BUT it certainly does 'wear out' often and with dramatic consequences when it does. Carboned oil was the earlier reason, Water cooling helped.. mostly.. But Turbos spin up to 100k rpms (some even higher).. turning off the engine (and the Bearing/bushing's oil supply) a few too many times does Bad things to it.. what happens to engine bearings with no oil??
Have you never seen a Shot or even worn Turbo?.. most impressive :-)
