my 88T showed bad governor seal symptoms immediately after an overheat situation where the antifreeze was not up to snuff, ice blocked the rad and since it was extremely cold outside (zero degrees F) I did not notice anything until I had travelled over 10 miles focused on the traffic rather than my instruments.The symptoms were an immediate upshift from 1st into 4th causing engine lugging while in drive.Temporary solution was manual shifting. Examination of governor seals showed one rubber seal cleanly split apart and less elastic than the other. I assume heat caused the damage.If you are thinking of a diy repair see my other postings. It's doable in a couple of hours if the cover bolts are not seized too badly (presoak with penetrating oil and use a high quality Torx-27 driver in a socket for best results.I had to drill out 3 of mine, luckily I had spares from an old transmission.)
