I towed my '92 9000 w/5speed for over 30k miles behind my motor home. I had contacted Saab US in Atlanta, and they told me it was OK. Of course you have to leave it in neutral, and also turn the key to the first position to unlock the steering.
About a year after I had stopped towing, my transmission needed to be rebuilt (80k miles), but I don't know if it was because of it being towed. Don't remember now what failed, but I think was one of the bearings, as the gears were all OK.
I had never heard of overfilling with oil, and don't know if you should do that. If I were to tow it again, I would talk to someone that is familiar with those transmissions, to find out if it gets splash lubed while being towed.
