I'm thinking this might have to do with tire profile

The 50 series tires have effectively shortened up the gearing, so for any given speed the engine rpms are higher.
The only way the ECU can tell the gears apart is by looking at engine rpm vs the the speed the car is moving.
I'm wondering if the change in tires combined with some marginality in the ECU program doesn't have the ECU confusing 2nd with first.
I could move up to 17s, but for the type of driving I do I like the tightening of the ratios I get from the 50/16 s. Plus 50s handle great.
If this is indeed the problem the best solution would be a mod to the ecu program. Time to do a little arithmetic on the 1st to 2nd gear ratios and tire profiles.
