The Saab has been very problematic for quite some time now. In fact I am thinking back to when the problems began and it seems like it was about a year ago. The problem has gotten increasingly worse.

One year ago, the car began to die at any moment. Well, I can say it is consistant in the fact that is is always at low RPM's. This doesn't necessarily mean at idle, but always at low RPM's. Like driving slowly through a parking lot for instance.

It used to be that after it died, it would not immeadiatly start back up. However, if I waited ten minutes or so, it would start with no problem. Then it may be fine for days, sometimes even months.

Now the problem is much worse. After a few months of trouble free driving, the inevitable problem returned. Only now, it will not start after ten minutes or so. The last time it didn't start for a couple of weeks. I felt very lucky when it did, and immeadiatly drove it home. I was so frustrated I did not even try to start it for a few more weeks.

Last night I decided to see if it would start. It was turning over slower that normal, but acted like it wanted to start. It seemed as though it wasn't turning over fast enough to get enough combustion. It would cough a little, nothing more. So, I decided it just needed a little more juice. I hooked the jumper cables to my other car, and it turned over much faster. It coughed quite a bit more, but would not start. At that point it seemed to me that it wasn't getting enough fuel to maintain the combustion. So, I gave it some gas as it was coughing and it started!!!

I held the gas peddle in to keep the RPM's up. After a little while I slowly let the RPM's down until my foot was off the peddle. Then it died. I started the car in the same manner, and held the RPM's up for a longer period of time. This time it kept idling after I let off the peddle. It did not die. I let the car idle for about twenty minutes. It did not die. After I shut it off, it started right up. I am scared to drive it anywhere, because I don't know when it will leave me stranded. And it is very cold outside.

Now that I'm telling you all this, I realize that the problems have been the worst in cold weather. There was snow on the ground last year when it all began, and it has been below freezing since this latest bout. However it is not trouble free in warmer weather.

I will see if it starts when I get home, and I will check the forum tomorrow. I welcome any suggestions. I have done the typical tune up. NGK plugs gapped correctly, fuel and air filters, vacuum lines, etc... I even took it to a Saab mechanic last year, and he could find nothing wrong with the car. I paid him $165 and the car was trouble free for a few months. I think it just likes money, however I have a working mind, time and tools. Not lots of money.

So if anyone has any ideas, or can see that I need to replace a particular part, please let me know. I really would like to drive this car. It is a pleasure when it is in good working order. Thanks for your time and patience for reading this very long post.
