fyi re replace trans shifter light:
It's easy once you know how.
From the diagram I had of the console I looked like all I had to
do was take off the shiter cover (the part with the side button
releases) and one screw, and out it would come. Not true.
When I did the above, the plate where the bulb goes got loose,
but didn't come out. The reason is the stiff plasic or metal
"sliding panel" under the plastic plate where the light goes hangs it
up. Here's the solution:
Unfasten the shifter handle (two long screws on engine side of handle)
and just pull it off. Unscrew single fastner located under round plastic
cover on the engine side of the shifter cover plate. With parking brake
on shift into 2nd, and pull up front of cover plate. Shift into drive
and this will move the sliding panel forward so that you can then lift
the cover plate back end off. Replace bulb. Do the above in reverse order
and that's it!
The snag I had was because I didn't understand how the sliding cover must
be moved while removing the part that holds the light bulb, the part
that has the gear indicators. When you go to re-install the sliding part
has to go down into the console first, start at the back, finish by pushing
down on the sliding panel as you move the shift lever forward, or it will not go into the area it's supposed to, you will not be able to move shift lever into park. Don't force anything, it all goes together easily if properly situated.
I spent quite a while figuring this out, so I hope this helps you all.
