Up under the dash on driver's side is a small black box, about the size of a pack of cigarettes. It's held in by a clip and can be removed without any tools. This is the central lock controller.
If you are careful it can be taken apart by prying on the case with a small screwdriver.
The PC board inside is single sided, with a couple of relatively heavy relays soldered in place. The solder joints around the relay fatigue and crack, making the locks work intermittantly.
Fifteen minutes with a soldering iron usually fixes all the bad connections and the locks will work again for a few years. A new controller is around $175 from a dealer.
Good Luck
