Definately heater core. The question will be how agreeable the shop will be to honoring the warranty. Yes, there are micro-cracks in the heater core, and this allows a little bit of coolant to leak out. It accumulates over time, and when you turn the heat on, the air blowing over the core brings those molecules right to your nose. Once that accumulation evaporates (a minute or three), the smell goes away. The nose is pretty good, so there probably isn't much of a leak. Yet.
If the guys at the shop are nice, they'll replace the core based on a little whiff. If they're picky, they may say that they won't replace the core unless the inside of the windshield is fogging - pretty bad smell by that time. If they're really picky, they may require actual leaking - coolant dripping out, usually onto the SRS module behind the center console. By that time, it's a serious leak.
It all depends on the service manager, and if he's feeling in a good mood.
