Hi
I've been away from the board for a while as my stable of SAABs have changed. The '89 900S 16V lpg (227,000 miles) and '92 9000 CSE 2.3T Auto lpg (168,000 miles) have gone and replaced by a 9000 CSE 2.3t Anniversary lpg (now at 86,000 miles).
When I got the new 9000 both wiper motors weren't working so I put the ones from the old one on. They have been fine for 11 months until one has stopped working. Occasionally the windscreen wipers don't switch off despite putting the contol column stalk to off. I thought this was one of theheadlamp wiper motors playing up. I gave them a wiggle and made a note to disconnect them soon.
Today whilst heading off on a trip (with my parents and rest of the family aborad of course) the windscreen wipers stick on. No promblem. Disconnect the LHS headlamp wiper. Didn't cure it. Go home (5 miles) get more tools and then disconnect the RHS headlamp wiper and the problem is solved. Go on trip. At the destination the problem returns. Manage to clear the problem before setting off on thereturn trip. After a heavy rain shower they won't switch off again and I have to pull the fuse (#8) to stop them.
My feeling is that it is the relay sticking on. Firstly where is the relay? My Haynes manual is useless as it stops at 1995 models.
Second thought is that it could be the switch (but the car isn't that old). Remove and WD40 or can you get inside the switch and clean the contacts?
Third thought is that it could be an earth. I did have a spate of the RH indicator not comming on unless it was encouraged by putting the hazard light switch on for 1 flash and then off again. Is there an earth to the steering column that I need to check?
Sorry for being away for so long. Apart from this and a revsersing light switch (changed at last service) and juddery front brakes recently(annoying becasue the discs and pads were swapped across from the previous 9000 before it went to auction) everything is fine. Its a very nice car. Wood, aircon, leather and heated seats in addition to the normal toys. Only niggle is that the lpg system isn't as smooth running as my last. Its so nice that my wife is teh main driver and I have got a '92 Land Rover Discovery 200Tdi for towong glider (sailpane) trailers and extracting them from fields. The difference in the driving expereince couldn't be more marked.
