Hood clearance problems with center terminal battery? Posted by DickT [Email] (#1628) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DickT) on Fri, 30 Jan 2004 16:26:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just replaced my Interstate Megatron 34R (don't know how old it was, the date holes weren't punched) with a Partsmaster center terminal generic. It was cheaper than the specified fit, has 800cca, and seemsto have quite a bit of lead inside, though maybe not as much as the Interstate. The terminals are less than half the battery width from the original position so there was no problem getting the cables to fit. It loooked likr there was enough clearance from the hood, but I'm a little worried about what might happen when things flex, and was wondering if anyone had experience with this.
I'm planning to mount the old battery ahead of the front axle on an old lawn tractor we use to get out firewood. I welded up the differential after the teeth stripped out, and though the increase in traction with a locked rear end was impressive, it needed weight on the front end to get it to steer. The Interstate should help given the fact that it has a truly serious amount of concentrated mass. Its age aside, I'm looking forward to the way it ought to spin over the 12hp Briggs and Stratton at below zero temps.
