Nothing crazy. Pretty easy to remove. I found the most time-consuming (but no more difficult) part to be compressing the springs to extract the old struts and insert new ones, but it sounds like you'll be trashing the struts AND springs, since your springs are broken. Nonetheless, you'll need to compress the new springs to get the struts in. You can rent a good spring compressor from Pep Boys.
You may want to spray some liquid wrench on the nuts/bolts, particularly if yours is an older 9000 that's been driven in area where road salt is used.
Be sure to remove the wheel sensor cable and brake lines from the clips on the strut before removing!
