TPS sensor on 87 turbo

I am working on a idle problem for an 87 turbo. I have checked almost everything by the service manual and checked most of the parts by replacement and cleaned everything, etc. Believe me, I have narrowed it down to the TPS or AIC.
Here is what is wierd. According to the Saab service manual, the #3 contact for the TPS is on the driver side of the TPS. IE, as you look at the TPS from the front, the #3 is on the left. Therefore, according to the manual, you should have a circuit at idle between the #1-2 contacts, which according the manual should be on the passenger side.
However, I have seen some posts and at least one set of instructions on the townsend imports site that say the #1-2 connectors are closest to the driver side.
So, I have a conflict between the Saab manual and the Townsend site about where the #1-2 connectors are on the TPS. What makes me wonder, is when I close the circuit on the connector using the two conectors on the drivers side (1-2 according to Townsend, 2-3 according to the Saab manual) my idle smooths out and it runs perfectly. According to the Saab manual, this would be for the wide-open throttle.
Sorry for the long post, but my question is, how are the connectors labeled or used on the TPS? #1 closest to the driver side or #1 closest to the passenger side?
PS: If you have to think too much about this, don't worry about it. Someone should know what I am talking about and be able to answer this easily.
