Head Gasket/Coolant System Posted by PGAero [Email] (#1143) [Profile/Gallery] (more from PGAero) on Fri, 6 Feb 2004 16:18:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I recently took the plunge and purchased myself an Aero. (The first car I purchased myself). I've had experience with my brothers' classic 900's and my parents' 9000S, so Saabs are not new to me, but I'm just getting this car figured out. ('93 Aero, 46,000 miles)
Alright, my '93 Aero has some coolant system issues. It looses coolant at varying rates, and there never seems to be any on the ground, but there is white (whiter than usual, even in cold weather) exhaust after start-up. Am I right in thinking that my head gasket is letting water into a cylinder?
Sometimes it starts right up, and sometimes it has a real hard time turning over, sometimes it doesn't turn over the first or second time, then starts up, runs rough, then settles out.
The white exhaust doesn't always show up, just some times. (It does smell a little sweet, like coolant.) It could depend on how I park it, or how long it's had to cool off between starts as I park on a hill at work, but it's flat at home, and I'm in and out of the office.
It runs pretty well once the RPMs are up over 2K, and the turbo spools fine, with plenty of power. It does run rough, which might be a DI issue, at idle, but that's a different issue (I think/hope).
Am I up against a head gasket, or are there bigger fish to fry here? (Cracked Head,. . . gulp!)
Any help would be appreciated.
