Assuming that you have already driven with the light on Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Check Oil light-level high and need to drive 2 hrs home, Robb, Tue, 10 Feb 2004 14:02:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
and that the engine isn't toast yet, it's probably the sending unit - these have a high failure rate. If you haven't driven it with the light on and you would like to be on the safe side, have it towed somewhere for diagnostic work (i.e. measure the oil pressure).
The switch should be available at any large auto parts store, even big chains that stay open late, it's somewhat generic and in a fractional inch size. I don't know about the one on the 9000, but my old C900 used the same switch as most any Ford V8 (had to change it a couple of times, learned what fit).
I don't know what year/configuration you have, but the following applies to my 1994 - I just replaced the switch on Sunday. To change it, you will need a 15/16-inch DEEP-well socket (regular depth wouldn't work with my sockets), a 1/2-inch drive ratchet handle or breaker bar, and a 6-inch extension. It's located under the intake manifold, next to the oil filler tube. Remove the wire, replace the switch, replace the wire.
If the light stays on, get a tow!!!
