It would be interesting to see a 5k mi UOA.
I have no basis for suspecting a linear model for contaminants in this particular application, except that that's the way most wear occurs. Its simply a supposition based on previous observations.
I also suppose that Saab's OE oil formulations are "diesel style" for the very reasons you mention. They contain better additive packages for longer drain intervals. The fact that Jeff's oil still had some additives shows that it wasn't used beyond its abilities. I'm not saying it wasn't close to the end, just that it wasn't past the end.
After seeing a number of Saab UOAs, I'd never use an xW-30 oil in a Saab turbo engine. But that's just me. M1's 15W-50 has a better HT/HS rating & a better additive pkg than the other M1s (except for their new "truck & SUV" diesel style 5W-40). I'm giving serious consideration to switching from M1 0W-40 (or my planned 0W-40 & M1 15W-50 mix) to this "new" oil for my turbo's 10k mile intervals.
