The braided hose isn't a stock item, and is typically used when installing a racing pressure plate, which have a reputation for engaging very early. In fact, I tried installing a racing PP in my '95 Aero last April, complete with SS-braided hose and new disk, slave, and throw-out bearing.
The operation was a bust when the clutch engaged far too low to even engage low gear or reverse, and once under way shifting was almost impossible. I ended up ripping the tranny out again (twice in two days) and replacing the old PP, taking a guess as to the cause, which regained proper operation.
After installing a high-output ECU in Spring of 2002, I began getting clutch slippage after liberally using Gunk on the motor in Sept. 2002. My theory is that the increased output and probability that Gunk made contact with the clutch disk material caused the slippage, so I laid out plans to replace the aforementioned items.
If your car has a racing PP installed, it may be the cause of your woes. Why mine would not engage properly is still a mystery, but all is well now, and I am getting no slippage even with 20+ psi of boost. I no longer use Gunk anywhere near the tranny.
All of the people who have racing PP's that I've spoken with report low-pedal engagement and high pedal-pressure levels.
