"Singing" fuel line Posted by bryan [Email] (#542) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bryan) on Sun, 22 Feb 2004 14:01:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi gang,
Never heard of this one before in my previous 6 Saab, currently own an '88 9KS and a '92 9KT.
The '88 S just started making an odd sound last night, and in the dark I assumed it to be the cabin blower fan starting to give up. A weird 'moaning', singing sound was emanating from the bulkhead area, and I thought to myself "great, there goes next Saturday fixing THAT p.o.s."
Today in the light after doing some trouble shooting I found that it's not the cabin blower fan, it's the output side ( I think, trying to remember which way that arrow was pointing, up or down) but it's on the top side of the fuel filter. That line sounds like it might be cavitating because it produces this odd singing, moaning sound in the line. As quickly as it appeared it disappeared this afternoon, fittingly enough when I was running to the store to get a new fuel filter. I've had the car for awhile and I know the filter on the car has about 35K on it. I'm just dubious that that filter is the culprit, this is a well maintained car with 161K on it, and I've seen Saabs go 100K on the same filter with no issues to speak of.
Just for my own edification I will be replacing the fuel filter, just looking to see if anybody out there has had something similar and what the remedy was.
TIA,
bryan
