and verify that the tabs are still in the correct position.
I did this on my '93 900TC, and had to open up the pack 3 times before finally getting it right. It wasn't so much that I inserted the tabs incorrectly, but moreso that they would move out of place when I snapped the cover back on.
Definitely ensure that you replaced the tabs in the correct position as was before. There's really only one way everything fits together.
While you're in there, clean each and every contact spot with emery cloth, rubbing away any black spots (leaving behind shiny brass contacts), and then wipe them with a lint-free cloth to remove the metal filings/dust. This should fix the intermittent central lock issue.
