Hi Bruce
Just doing exactly this at the moment. Anders is right - the engine manual he lists is invaluable. Cost in the UK was £20 (USD 30). Search for my other posts on this matter and Anders' great advice.
I am at the block stage now and ready to re-build. I will do this slowly as it is a project and my 9K 2.0 workhorse is taking the daily strain.
As there is no manual, I have labelled everything with PVC tape as I took it apart and made copius notes - now running to 100+ lines. Would be happy to send it to you, but it would only be limited use as you would have to label just as I did.
I kept all the relevant bolts, nuts etc etc in labelled envelopes as I took them off.
Good news is that the 2 No. head gaskets were £20 for the pair as OEM from Saab main dealer. Aftermarket was more expensive!
Any tips you find, please post them with "V6" in the title. I am going to do this on a budget, follows a few of my decisions:
Oil cooler in the "V" of the V6 not removed as was working OK and expensive to replace £450 (I can always replace it later)
Thermostat not being replaced as it seems well locked into its housing and in good condition. The thermstat housing links to the water pipe with 2 rubber O rings. I didn't know this and could only remove it after both heads were off. I will reinstate as is.
Re-timing with a timing kit is recommended, but at £150 expensive. I will try and reinstall timing belt holding crackshaft and OH cam shafts in place using willing helpers!
Having only removed the fan/housing late in the deconstruct it makes access much easier - I would do it at the beginning - it is only three screws
I will not fit new exhaust gaskets as the whole project might not work! If I get a runner, I will get the gaskets fitted later at an exhaust shop (will be easy to disconnect as joint recently taken apart - heat joints with hot air gun before unbolting)
Valve cover gaskets probably will be shot. I did one before stripping down all the way. Cost was £10 in UK. Will replace the other too.
Good luck!
