to wait for warm weather of if you are in no jacket climate this week (we are seeing just barely freezing here this morning 3 hrs south of Chicago) blanket the front of the car and idle it watching the gauge. First stage will start about 0930/1000 on the guage and second will kick in if first is running and temp still climbing at the 1030/1100 area. This will test the full system if you have the dual spd fan. Look for a heatsinked resistor mounted on the back frame of the rad fan (rear side of radiator). If you have that then you are a dual spd unit.

Or you can manually test just the fan speeds: in relay/fuse box front of batt. find and remove covers on low spd and high spd fan relays. Plug back in their respective sockets, finger push the low speed relay to engage = fan comes on; Low must be engaged to get to the high spd, now keep low turned on and finger push high spd relay. That should give you 2nd speed . Release high then low. You have copied operation of the control system and how it stages the fan. You did this because the fan cannot start high spd from a cold start as it consumes too much current without a rolling startup. Fuses are in there to.
