My compressor seized. The clutch/pulley almost caught on fire and destroyed the bearing. I unplugged the compressor clutch to prevent it from engaging and drove home with the pulley rumbling away.
In order to repair it right, I need to replace the compressor, any other suspect components, and flush all the hoses. I need to comparison shop for parts and confirm what I need, hopefully wait until it's warm enough to work outside, etc... It's going to take a little time.
I need to drive to work.
So, instead of sidelining myself for days waiting for parts to arrive, I went to the store, bought three short serpentine belts, fitted the one that worked, and returned the others. Cost - $33 for the belt.
Pretty cheap solution to keep me on the road.
Thanks for the e-bay tip on the compressor. I'll keep my eyes peeled.
