Energizer Batteries Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Battery fully dead after 6 hours of sitting - 88 9kT, Karthik, Thu, 18 Mar 2004 16:11:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Ari's writeup, below, is one of the best electrical diagnostics I have seen. A few other tidbits to add:
1. Make sure that the battery case is clean - there is a low possibility of conducting across a large buildup of wet dirt/gunk. This shouldn't be an issue with a fairly new battery, but...
2. Measure the voltage drop across the positive cable as well as the ground cable. These cables have been know to fail, particularly at the junction with the lugs (i.e. where it attaches to the starter), that's why they sell replacements ($$$).
3. Corroded fasteners - I had severly corroded nuts and washers holding the battery cable to the starter terminal on my old C900, caused weird electrical problems. I replaced them with all stainless steel (which may not be the best it turns out) and never had electrical problems again.
I also have a nine-month old Energizer battery that I had to purchase in an emergency. Last month I accidently left my parking lights on for less than four hours and the battery was dead to the point of not starting the car and locking out the radio. I have to believe that these are not the best batteries out there.
