my mechanic did a really good price on the new radiator, and there seem (so far, at least) to be no ill effects on the transmission after lots of fluid changes. But I do know not everyone is so lucky, and brown is not good - except in cooking when, as my mother-in law used to say, "When it's brown it's done, when it's black it's bug*e*ed".
As to the head gasket, NH-AERO doesn't say what his remaining oil looks like. However, oil often seems to get into the radiator when the head gasket goes, rather than the other way round.
