I take it you get a grinding noise when applying the brakes, but the pads look fine.
My guess - brake squeal. Brake squeal occurs when the pads vibrate, and they vibrate as the rotors slide against them as you brake. We usually think of brake squeal as being a high-pitched sound, but the sound frequency is just a factor of how fast the pads are vibrating. Right now on my '92 I have a squeal problem where the sound is pretty low - sounds like a grind.
If the pads look good and the braking is straight and true, then it's merely an annoying sound. If it bothers you, there are a few options. The first is to pull the pads and put some anti-squeal compound on the back. This is just a sticky material that damps out the vibration. It's harder to damp out low frequencies than high frequencies, so this may or may not work. But it'll cost you only a few bucks for the compound and an hour to pull and replace the pads.
The other option is to try a different set of pads.
