I installed Zimm CD rotors with PBR Deluxe pads less than a year ago and experienced problems soon after. I let the pads "bed" for 500 miles, so I know it was not due to improper first-time usage.
When braking hard, any braking done afterwards would have tremendous brake fade (to the point of a feeling of no brakes at all).
I had a ton of brake dust all over my wheels, and these pads do not normally create dust.
Any form of braking beyond "slightly touching the brake pedal" resulted in a groaning noise from the front. It also would feel like metal-on-metal at times.
The pads were literally eaten alive with 10K miles on them! They were starting to show the metal backing plate behind the pad.
I finally said enough was enough and installed new Brembo flat-faced rotors with Axxis pads about 2 months' ago. What a major difference! Actually feels better than oem! When braking hard, be certain not to be sitting too close to the windshield or your nose will seriously get bumped!
As is the consensus here (of which I should have listened to in the first place), cd-rotors are for pure aesthetics only. There is no extra performance gained. In fact, compared to oem, they lessen braking power.
BTW: Got a pair of Zimm cd rotors with 10K miles on them for sale now...
