$70 Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Dealer price not that bad..., David Ingram, Wed, 7 Apr 2004 11:05:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My dealer quoted me $70 for what is essentially a 4 foot long piece of rubber strip.
From what I can tell, to replace it you open the hatch and remove the two side metal trim pieces. These go over the top of the rubber piece. Each is held on with 4 torx screws and some black windshield caulk. From what I can see, you just peel the strip up - it has an extrusion on the backside that fits into a channel between the hatch and the window glass. I expect that you just press fit the new one in. You can actually slide the trim piece back in forth in the channel (not easily).
I've been getting water leaking into the hatch on the right hand side, just behind the turn signal cluster. After spending some time camped in the trunk with a flashlight, I've determined that it is NOT the rubber seal, that the water is actually coming in above that, through the hatch. I've pulled off the side trim pieces, and note that the factory caulk has dried out. I doubt that the rubber strip has any waterproofing function. I plan on re-caulking the side trim pieces with some windshield glue, but once I do that, I can't replace the rubber strip. So I figured I'd replace it to keep the sterling good looks of the car.
