My TCS Cntrl, CE weekend update (long)

Spent some of yesterday and much of today (Easter Bunny wasn't very happy) cleaning, checking, etc. the new for me '93 9000 CSE Turbo. Here are the latest tidbits; with the battery reinstalled the check engine light was off initially but came on at the second startup. TCS Cntrl light still on. I've got it so it now idles at about 750 RPM now and no longer requires feathering the pedal to start or stay running despite being in LHM. I decided to check spark plug type and gap. It does have NGK R's (BCPR7ES I think) and the gap was right (.039) but the plugs are burning ultra rich- very sooty. My somewhat limited knowledge tells me FPR or O2 sensor. Now, it appears that the PO had a new cylinder head installed and there was evidence of boilover. I seem to remember that if antifreeze gets on the O2 sensor that's all she wrote. In fact that was the case with a Chevy Beretta we used to have. Before I changed the O2 sensor in that after a head R&R, gas mileage was horrible and plugs were very sooty. I was able to contact the PO and she acknowledged putting "a LOT of money into it", but was not much on specifics (and no receipts unfortunately). So, in addition to anyone's helpful info on all of the above, can anyone tell me what ECU fault (engine management) conditions, if any, could throw the TCS into LHM?
