Engine cutting out sometimes.

I've searched the forum with no success on this one...
My 86 9000T seems to be starved for fuel sometimes. Especially when I have very little gas in the car (but not exclusively.) It seems to hick-up and the gas pedal does not respond to any input. I can floor it, but it will just be barely idling enough to keep it running... And may die.
This first happened to me when Driving on a hot day, Every 1 minute of driving down the highway, I'm driving 100 km/h and out of the blue, I would have no power, my pedal does not respond, and I'm slowly decelerating. After a few more seconds, It kicks in again and I can drive normally for 1 minute until the whole cycle happens again.
In the city, when this happens, I usually have to pull over and let it cool off for a minute, then its fine.
All of this started happening as my rad fan broke, but the issues described seem to be independent of coolant temperature.
I replaced the fuel filter. And my Gas cap does not indicate a vacuum (the 'pssst' when I open the tank.)
If anyone has any help, please share.
Thanks,
M
