soft brake pedal question

I have an 88 9k turbo with ABS (188,000 miles). However, the ABS is currently non-functional, but the brakes were stopping the car just fine before starting any work(I suspect a damaged/disconnected sensor, and am planning to trouble-shoot this summer). I've been working to get the car ready for PA's annual inspection and emissions testing.
All the trouble started after I replaced the front rotors. Calipers appear to be the original, and there is some weeping at the caliper/hose connection on the passenger side. I've bled the brakes three times, with the same result--normal, firm pedal for about 36-48 hours. After that, the pedal will go almost the entire length of its travel before I feel the brakes engage. Obviously, this is not a good situation, and must be corrected before the car returns to daily usage.
When applying brakes hard, the car will pull to the right, which leads me to believe that the driver's side caliper is not grabbing. I have not noticed any leaks, and the fluid level seems to be fairly normal.
What tests can I do to isolate the problem? Where should I start looking?
Thanks for any input you guys may have--I wasn't able to find a description in the archives, so thought I would post to add info our collective Saab encyclopedia.
