If you have a Turbo 9000......

I'm about to make a 4k mile trip from Maine to South Florida and back... planning on stops in various places, including the Rally this Sat in NY...

I took in the Aero for a bunch of various items to be serviced before the
trip, including fuel filter ( ick very dirty!) and rear rotors and pads, oil change etc etc.. replaced the bypass valve, fixed the fog light and
instrument lights.. etc.. got the car back and then yesterday.. no
boost.. sure enough the waste gate actuator rod had come apart from the
lever on the turbo unit. The car has 93k on it and the pin sheered off
flush, such that it was near impossible to see with the eye and how you could see it to even see where the pin penetrated the shaft. Long story short, my mechanic managed to finally drive out the old pin, but had to dig deep to find a replacement.. He ended up using a pin that held together a replacement timing chain, L shaped and once through the whole bent into a Z like shape.

The moral is that this pin is going to fail and should be replaced somewhere after 60k, at which point it is easy to remove with needle nose. Don't wait for it to break, replace it now and plan on replacing it every 60k at the least. What could have been 15 minute swap out of a pin turned into a 3 hour job of messing around to get the old pin out ( charged for only 2 hours, thank you Don).

Im taking 81 south with a plan to run some of the Skyline Drive and Blue
Ridge Parkway. Also planning on a stop by Saab corp headqauters to see Terry in Maketing... we were classmates at the Viggen Flight Academy in '01... then on to Fort Myers FL for the family event.

cheers.. hope this helps someone avoid a PITA job

Jason
