The bigger tires would add more road adhesion to the rear end, so when you go into a corner the front tends would tend wash out first. 9000s understeer too much anyway.

Having wider tires on the back of a RWD car works because the good ones, like Porsche 944s, are more evenly balanced front to rear, and when you get on the power you need the extra rear traction to keep the rear end under control. In normal driving it can make the car understeer some (depending on tire pressure, alignment, shocks, and other suspension mods) but since you can induce power oversteer you want the extra friction/traction in back.

Porsche started putting bigger tires on the back of production 911s in the early 70s, I think it was, because it helped control the lift-throttle oversteer those cars had. Having had the "experience" at speed on fast autocross courses (and a coupla roads) where I got to drive looking thru the rear window, I can say the bigger tires help.

Have driven 924 Turbos and 944s with various tires and the big sneakers on the back do make a huge difference. FUN!!
