To remove the pulley from the PS pump on a Saab 9000, you need a pulley puller, which can be purchased at a good auto parts store for about $30. The puller works by grabbing the pulley at the hub, close to the center (notice the machined groove there just for that purpose), and pushing on the shaft. This prevents bending of the pulley. The puller is also used to push the old pulley onto the shaft of your new pump, using the 3/8-16 (ASME-American size) thread in the pump shaft. Make sure that your puller can handle the Saab pulley. This should not be a problem, since the thread is American.
Also, make sure the pulley is facing the right way before you push it on the shaft, that is, with the pulling groove of the pulley facing out, away from the pump body. Otherwise, you will not be able to remove the pulley, and it will not align with the fan belt.
Don't try to pull the pulley off by holding the pulley near its outer diameter and applying force on the shaft-it takes so much force to remove the pulley, that the pulley gets irreversibly bent doing it that way. I know, in my ignorance I did just that, before I was taught about the pulley puller. It cost me a new pulley.
