Most likely sources of B202 engine vibration?(long) Posted by DickT [Email] (#1628) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DickT) on Mon, 19 Apr 2004 06:48:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Since putting in a poly trans mount , I have become aware of engine vibration on my 89s 5spd with 222k miles. It seems to be most noticeable around 2500rpm but is less noticeable cruising at 3500rpm. If I put the car in neutral(or just put in the clutch) and coast at 55mph , then let the engine slow down to idle, the vibration goes away. If I rev to to 2500rpm(still in neutral) it comes back.
I've owned the car for 35k and don't know the engine's history prior to that. Plugs, cap, rotor, wires are new. I just ran two bottles of techron through it on a 700mile trip this weekend(got 30mpg). Crank pulley looks old, but no slippage of the paint marks I put on 20k miles ago. Compression was good and even last time I checked. There's a little timing chain noise. All mounts are new or low mileage (poly on engine side upper and trans, everything else rubber). Clutch disc,pp, flywheel history unknown.
Would appreciate your ideas. Since this is an old car, Im looking for cheap and simple fixes, and can live with it as is.I have an 88s (with 149k) parts car but am a little reluctant to severely cannabalise it as I may want to swap all my 89 good parts over to it eventually.
