I live in Winnipeg and the last few winters have been nothing but salt. I've had an 86 and presently a 94 cs. The 86 was written off in 2000 and by then I had repaired all the door bottoms and the rear arches, also it was starting to go where the seat belt anchors bolt into the rear wheel well. The rubber door mouldings at the bottom of the door are terrible for holding dirt and moisture as are the mouldings on the wheel arches.
My CS is better but not immune, the doors are perfect, but the front fenders are bubbling a bit at the mouldings and the front left jacking point was crushed by a previous owner and is starting to look a bit rough. I removed the rubber door bottoms when I got the car 3 years ago and I'm glad I did, much easier to clean.
Other than the jacking point the floor pan is clean and if you stay on top of the rust (wire brush, prime, touch up and wash car regularly) then the cars can look good for a long time. My 86 still looked good from 10 ft. away just before it got hit, and it was 15 yrs old. My 94 CS is now 10 yrs old and when washed and waxed looks almost brand new, according to most people. I just look at it with a very close eye and most of us on this board are fussier than average about their cars.
What you see depends on how close you look.
