So, the story starts months ago, when I took my car to
my (now former) mechanic to have the tranny swapped.

When it came back, it became clear that Leon had become
a liability rather than an asset - the car no longer
passed state inspection because he destroyed the switch
for the backup lights....but that was just the beginning.

A few weeks ago it developed a leak in the heater hose
that is near the distributor - most likely another Leon
casualty - which caused quite a mess in the few minutes
it was spraying everything.
I cleaned carefully, but suspected there was more....

The car had arrived to me originally with a cracked
front pipe and a broken flange on the catalytic converter,
so it was a tad noisy - but livable that way.

Several days ago it began to give these huge bucks at
different times - and the front pipe finished cracking
open - things were not looking good right then....

I asked the folks here that know more than myself for
pointers to follow in isolating the cause of the
bucking, and there came to be about 6 categories to
check - so I checked them...

I started with all the vacuum and vapor hose conections,
and immediately found the PCV system was very leaky, so
I set about sealing it up - and 2 fittings just fell to
bits as soon as I touched them - and I had to order the
parts from out of state.

Cleaning the hooter valve proved to be fruitless, so I
moved on to the AMM cleaning.

In doing the disassembly I had a shock - all the big,
critical joints between the AF housing and the turbo
inlet were not even tightened AT ALL, and the AMM was
quite dirty - so I took it out and what did I find ?

Leftover antifreeze and the beginnings of corrosion
inside the (sealed ?) AMM electrical connection !

Cleaned all of it very carefully, and after reassembly
the bucking was no more, phew !

Of course, there I was with multiple exhaust leaks
that needed fixing NOW !
I was able to repair the front pipe, but the broken
flange is a bigger deal - I got a 2 piece replacement
for the flange, but sadly it does not really do the
job - so it looks lke I will soon need to get a
replacement catalytic....groan !!!

So I will drive the car in a louder state than I wish
for it to be, for a while, until I have the dough for
a new converter, but all else is in reasonable shape.

Now....to get the A/C and the exhaust fixed, and it
will be a good for the whole summer I hope !!

Here's to Saab nirvana !!

Thanks for the great help folks !!
