Big puddle = DI failure???!!!

OK I've decided my '95 Aero is like a vindictive ex-girlfriend. After not solving the bizarre brake issue (see past posts-brakes now work fine, for no apparent reason) I tried to go autocrossing in the midwest monsoon this morning. Going thru downtown Cleveland, the highway was flooded ( 6-8" of water across 2 lanes). I managed to get down to 20-25 before hitting the water, but the car started misfiring afterwards. At first I thought it had sucked some water into the turbo, but it still ran, just stuttered under any boost at all, so I was reasonably confident it wasn't hydro-locked. Since I was only a few miles away from lots of car freaks, some of whom had trailers and big toolboxes, I kept going.
Long story short, autocross cancelled due to 40deg and sideways rain. I drove home gingerly and swapped the DI with my stone-ax reliable '92 sitting in the driveway, and that fixed the problem. Just bizarre!! Was this just a badly timed coincidence or what?
