They do sell replacements for a reason, right? And the ones that were used on early 90s Hondas/Accuras (called "igniters") failed quite often. If you already have the tuneup parts, give it a shot, your car is probably due.
I don't think that your problem is due to the plugs or wires, except perhaps the wire between the coil and the distributor cap, as they will not all fail at once - you have a more centralized problem. I have had a previous car not start due to a tiny crack in the rotor, so that's where I'd start. Look under the distributor cap for carbon tracks, make sure that the center "button" is still projecting enough to touch the rotor. After that, work your way back up the circuit, i.e. coil, ignition amp, etc.
