"89 Turbo worth fixing?"
I just posted this there, but since I have new questions, and since that thread didn't pop to the top, here goes:
I ended up getting it fixed at a great shop in Belchertown, MA - Hargeo Bros. I bought window regulator/motors and hood and hatch lifts through eBay first (turns out I only needed one window regulator, the other was just a bad relay). Hargeo charged me $500 for the timing chain, both windows fixed, installed the lifts, and a front end alignment. So, I now have this great car for a total of $1500! I love it.
Since then, though, other problems have come up. First, the sunroof wouldn't close after opening. Good thing Saab provided a manual crank. Not fixed yet. Then, the power antenna failed. The motor on it still "works", I can hear it, but the antenna doesn't move. I've got it taped up. Then, the AC seems to be out of freon, no cold. Any advice on these appreciated.
Now I've got other questions.
First, is there any way to disable the ACC coming on automatically? It doesn't remember my settings between starts. OK, fine, but I don't want it coming on in high fan every time.
Second, I've thought about window tinting to keep my big furry dog a little cooler in the hatch, but I don't want visibility problems backing up at night. What about those 'louvered' hatch shades? What are they actually called and where can I get one?
Third, eventually I'll need new tires. It's got 205-55-15 Pirelli 6000 now. I'll need tires that perform well at 85 on the highway dry or wet, and also handle a couple of inches of snow or ice at slow speeds a few times a year. I can't afford a set of snows or new wheels, but I'd like a bit fatter tire. Advice?
