cars like this. Others have differing opinions, but the BMW board that I use for my other car...everyone stays away from them. The problem with the KN filters is the oil from the filters can contaminate MAF meters or any other sensors in the intake system that regulate fuel flow. Problems for BMW drivers with MAF sensors that run about $400 each, but aside from that...any of these sensors get fouled and you will have drivability issues.
Something is telling your fuel injectors to pump more gas than needed. CEL coming on could be a good indication of a fouled O2 sensor (likely from too much unburned fuel). Running too rich can also ruin your CAT. I agree with ARI, find your rich running problem. My experience is that it is easies to get your codes read with an appropriate code reader.
