Frame Straightening Experience - Anyone? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I had a little "incident" with an inattentive young girl driving an SUV (rant elsewhere), which bent my right front control arm (easily replaced), but also pushed in the subframe a bit - this can be seen by how close the left edge of the subframe is to the right side of the oil pan. Note that the subframe is not kinked or obviously bent, but its location is definitely off, meaning that the control arm location will also be off.
Frequent visitors to this board can probably imagine that I maintained my car in excellent condition. It is now sitting in my garage, where I had a chance to examine it, but it is not drivable in its present condition - needs parts.
I have to decide whether to rebuild it or not. Before I start, has anyone here had experience having their subframes straightened? Did you have this done with the subframe still in place? Will it ever drive the same again, or should I just toss in the towel? It's hard to find a nice 9000 5-speed in my area, I've already been looking.
